Preferably, having everything back to normal in your new office on Monday morning. 3.    Ask yourself: Do I really need this? – Sometimes it is hard to get rid of an item that has a sentimental or other value. Ask yourself if you really need this item? Have you used it in the last year? Does it give you joy when you look at it? If the answer for these three questions is no, than discard the item quickly and efficiently. You do not need this item.

4.    Throw, donate and sell – Some of the things that you don’t use might be valuable. Townhouse sales of more than $3 million in Brownstone Brooklyn and North Brooklyn increased 579 percent in the past five years, according to this New York Post article. In 2014, 98 townhouses sold for $3 million-plus in North Brooklyn and Brownstone Brooklyn, including one in Gowanus, which had its first $3 million-plus sale.

The $3 million-plus deals accounted for 9.5 percent of the 1,035 townhouses that sold last year.

In 2013, only 47 townhouses sold for more than $3 million.

In 2009, a mere 11 townhouses sold for more than $3 million, according to the report. That number was just 1.4 percent of the 787 brownstones that sold in 2009.

With all that said, Brooklyn is still a place where Real estate is a good investment. According to the New York Daily news article, the over all Real estate prices in Brooklyn only rose half of a percent in 2013, from $458,000 to $460,000. Compared to Queens that saw an increase of 12%.

That is because there is not enough inventory in prime real estae areas such as Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights. These neighborhoods do not have enough inventory  to drive prices drastically up from current level. That also explains why Carrol Gardens that is going through a gentrification process, attracting young, affluent Americans and a growing communities of Europeans that has chosen it as their base became the most expensive neighborhood in Brooklyn in 2014, up 43% to $985,000 (surpassing DUMBO’s median price of $949,000, up 10%). The older, veteran residents of the neighborhood are cashing out and moving elsewhere, pushing prices up as they do so.

Meanwhile, prices actually fell 29%, to $537,000, in neighboring Cobble Hill because nothing was for sale.

Thanks to out-of-control prices in Williamsburg, which was up 14% to $703,000, neighboring Greenpoint experienced the second-highest price jump in Brooklyn, up 38% to $665,000.

Even East New York, which is traditionally considered a less desirable neighborhood because of high crime rates and lack of high end services has become a viable alternative to more established neighborhoods with prices soaring by 38% to $355,000.

Some neighborhoods saw falling prices. Kensington and Ditmas park saw prices falling 4% and 17% accordingly. Kensington which is labelled “Hollywood of the East coast” because it was established by  movie industry veterans who tried to create a competitor for Hollywood at the turn f the 20th century, saw prices going up for many years and the recent drop might be a good opportunity for buyers.

Another factor that pushes the purchase price up is the rental market. Brooklyn rents have gone up. Jumping 14% in 2013 according to Bloomberg news, putting the median Brooklyn rent at $2,737, This is the highest rent median since Bloomberg news started tracking the market in 2008.

Pack your collection yourself:
Many dolls, especially antique ones are very delicate and fragile. The best way to insure their safe transport is to pack them yourself. You should also consider the safety of the doll boxes. Many dolls are worth much more in their original box and having the box crashed because of sloppy packing might destroy the value of an otherwise excellent doll. Use the best packing materials you can for this type of collection. Do not use newspapers to pack the dolls. You might leave ink stains on them and reduce their value. Many types of dolls need an ample amount of bubble wrap or tissue paper in order to be fully protected. Every Vinyl record in your precious collection needs to be put in a paper liner which is than inserted into a plastic sleeve. Make sure that you have enough of these to protect all of your records. These two layers will protect your records from dust, moisture and other elements they might encounter on the road.

Provide cushioning
Don’t fill up a whole box with records. Keep a few inches of the box empty and fill them with bubble wrap. This will provide your records with some cushioning in case a box gets shifted in the truck or dropped by mistake. Do not put records one on top of each other. This is a sure way to wrap the bottom records and probably destroy their covers. The pressure of the top records will dent the cover and damage it. Decreasing the record’s value. Pack the records vertically in the box.

Use the right boxes
Vinyl is heavy. Don’t pack your collection in big boxes. Small “Book boxes” are ideal to transport records. Pack the box till you feel it is becoming too heavy to be comfortably moved and fill the rest of the box with bubble wrap as mentioned before. If you own rare and expensive records than we suggest that you let a professional mover pack the boxes for you.

Use the following guidelines when packing electronics for moving:

  1. If possible Follow manufacturers’ advice for packing and moving. They probably have a lot of experience shipping their products to retail outlets, shows etc. Consult the owner’s manual or manufacturer’s Web site for details.
  2. Reassembling is always a hassle. Try to avoid unnecessary work by labeling all of your components, parts, cables and other items when you disassemble your systems. USe color coded labels for these items and mark clearly how each cord or cable connects to its specific component. This will save you the hassle of trying to figure out what you re-assemble the systems in your new home.
  3. Avoid dust – Dust is electronics worst enemy. Avoid dust at all cost.  Seal the boxes carefully with professional packing tape to avoid letting dust damage your electronic equipment.
  4. Use original boxes if available – If possible, use the original manufacturer’s boxes when packing your electronics. If you don’t have the original boxes, than use professional moving boxes. China boxes are sturdy and will protect your equipment well.
