And if you have some bulky items, you can consider putting them away in storage, check out the best Brooklyn movers and storage for more information.

1. Make use of those small awkward places

Moving can be quite costly. Of course, before you move you should research what are the moving costs NYC , so that you know what to expect. If you are moving to a smaller apartment, every inch will count so try to make the best use of those small places. Surely you have some extra space between your wall and the cabinet. You can consider adding a rolling cart here. You can use it to store your spices, cleaning supplies, or bath amenities. Now, let’s check out what is under your bed. You can get a couple of plastic boxes or under-bed storage drawers to use this space the smart way. Also, don’t forget about your sofa. There is some free space between the sofa and the floor. And there is a way you can use it as storage. You can get an under-the-sofa drawer to store magazines, blankets, or books. You can easily DIY these items and save yourself a lot of money.

2. Add more space to your home with a cloffice

During these past two years, plenty of people started working from home. If you are working from home as well, you probably made yourself an impromptu home office. If you want to save space, you can consider getting a so-called cloffice designed for small spaces. It’s a combination between an office and a closet. Basically, it’s a desk inside a closet. Get one with internal shelves so you don’t need to worry about adding extra shelves to your wall. This is the best solution for people that want to separate their daily life from their work. And if you are planning to move back to your business office soon, look for the best small office movers NYC for a stress-free relocation.

3. Move your mess from the floor to the door

You can easily turn your doors into storage space. You can add a rack to your pantry, cabinet, or bathroom door to maximize storage space. Attach hanging baskets to your closet door, to add more space and keep it organized. Also, you can use your door to hang an ironing board. You can easily attach it with hooks to the back of the door. It’s incredibly simple to use. Just fold it down whenever you want to iron your outfit, and put it back when you are done. If you are a shoe fanatic, and you’ve collected quite a lot over the years. You certainly need to add an over-the-door shoe rack. This way you will save a lot of space, and you will keep your shoes well organized.

4. Get multifunctional furniture that has storage space

Clutter detracts from the beauty of a room and makes it less inviting, not to mention making the space seem a lot smaller. But you can reduce clutter and add more storage space with multifunctional furniture. Here are some of our absolute favorite pieces:

  • A pop-up coffee table – Use the space that’s under the top to store magazines, remotes, or joysticks.
  • A storage bench or an ottoman – You can use the extra space inside to store away blankets or pillows.
  • A mirror that holds jewelry – Your jewelry will stay organized with one of these.
  • An over-the-toilet organizer – If you don’t have enough space in your bathroom, this piece is an amazing way to create some extra space.
  • A chair with a built-in bookshelf – You will save space and your favorite books will be within reach.

5. Cleverly use corner spaces with these creative at-home storage ideas

Don’t leave your corner space empty. Instead, hang a couple of shelves and transform the corner into a little reading nook. If your kids have a lot of toys and their room easily gets messy, you can install a corner shelf for all of their toys. Or you can add a couple of wall hooks and use this area to hang the coats you use daily. Finally, you can transform that simple corner into a wine rack with just a couple of simple materials. As you can see the possibilities are endless.

6. You can even use walls for storage

Who said walls are just for the artwork. There are a variety of creative ways you can use walls to add storage space. Do you have a tiny kitchen, but a lot of pans and utensils. Use simple hooks to place them on the wall. Are you an avid cyclist but there is not enough space in your new small apartment? No need to worry, just get a bike rack and hang it on your wall. This way your bike is easily accessible, and it won’t get in your way.

7. Invest in a loft bed

When you have limited space in the bedroom, a loft bed is an amazing idea. Loft beds offer you a lot of additional storage space, which is one of their major benefits. You can use this space in an array of ways. Also, they are a brilliant choice for growing families. All you’ll need to do is to add another bed under the loft bed.

Now that you know a couple of creative at-home storage ideas you will easily add more space and completely transform your small apartment. Remember to cleverly use every nook and cranny in your home.

These guys are TRUE PROFESSIONALS! We've now moved with them twice (once in 2017 and then again this week) and we really can't say enough good things about them. Simi is incredibly easy to work with for scheduling and quotes, and the crews - John, Super Mario, and everyone - are just awesome. They're quick, incredibly careful and conscientious, and super friendly. If we ever move again (and god I hope we don't have to) we're absolutely calling them.
