Guide for tipping movers

When you are moving, everything around you can be so hectic, and you can get a bit anxious. But do not worry – this is completely normal. Moving can be very stressful – especially long distance – and that is exactly why you should consider hiring professionals such as long distance movers Brooklyn. In this way, your move will go very smoothly and stress-free. And that is why the moving companies are there: so that you can dedicate your time to something else. You know by now that moving doesn’t only mean moving, there are a lot of other things that you will have to do. We will talk about that a bit later, but right now let’s focus on the question: should you be tipping movers? Saying yes or no isn’t quite that simple as there are many answers to that question, so let’s check some relocation situations.

Tipping movers, yes or no?

There are a lot of theories about tipping movers, waiters, etc. Some people think that this is a must while others think that they are paid for the job they are working and that should be enough. Good thing is that there are a lot more people who are pro tipping. This is something that should be completely normal. However, not always. You shouldn’t always tip your movers. If you are not happy with the service they have provided – then you should definitely not tip them. On the other hand, if they have packed some valuable artwork for storage and have been very careful while doing that, then a proper tip is in order, even though that is the reason you have hired them.

Ways of tipping movers

There are a lot of ways for tipping movers. There is the standard one, with some cash. Of course, depending on how the job is done, and how long did it take you should calculate the right amount. On the other hand, tipping movers doesn’t always mean that you have to tip them with cash. There are other ways. Since movers are working hard and difficult physical job, you may consider having some nice lunch or dinner for them, drinks included. This can be really nice since as we said, movers are doing a physically difficult job and therefore they tend to get hungry and thirsty. Keep in mind that this may cost you more than simply tipping movers, but it is a really nice thought, and on the hot moving day, they will really appreciate it, maybe even more than the money.

Who to tip?

There is not only one mover, but there is also a team of professionals that are moving you. Movers such as international moving companies NYC, are the living proof.  Since there is a team of people you should definitely not tip only one person from the team. You will have to tip each and every one of them. Have a calculator, and see how much time and how much work did it took, to have you packed, and the truck loaded. Based on these facts you should divide the proper tip to each mover. This is very important; you cannot tip only one mover and expect from him to divide among others. He will think that it is only for him, and that makes a lot of sense.

No alcohol

When we said that you don’t have to tip your movers with money, but with food and drinks, we definitely didn’t mean alcohol. There are a lot of reasons for this. If you provide them in the middle f the day with pizza and beer, they won’t feel better, they will feel more tired. Therefore, instead of beer, you can serve them soda, cold water, and juice. Refreshments are important. Also, this doesn’t mean that at the end of the day you should bring out beer. In a lot of companies, this is frowned upon, and movers will have to refuse your polite offer. So, simply do not serve beer or any other alcohol for that matter. What would be really nice is to ask them what would they like to drink and eat.

Tipping movers is not a must

If you do not want to tip your movers, then you have every right to not to do it. This is not a must. This is to show appreciation and your satisfaction with the provided service. However, if you are unsatisfied with something you shouldn’t tip your movers. There are companies that are just not that good. That is why you should do your research before you hire a company:

  • Make a list of three appealing companies
  • Read their reviews
  • Ask someone you know for a recommendation
  • Check to see if the company has a license for the relocation business
  • Check to see for how long are they in the moving business

These are the only ways to find a good moving company, whose movers is worthy tipping well. If you are really satisfied with the provided service, there is nothing wrong with tipping them even more then you have planned.

Moving is not an easy task. Movers are professionals in their business, and they know how to handle a lot of things way better than you would. They can pack you, move you in a way that it will be really easy for you to unpack. If nothing else, movers are there to help us cope better with the stress that moving brings, because they will do this for us. It is very simple when it comes to whether to tip your movers. If you are happy with the work, they have done tip them properly, if you are not happy with the provided service, simply do not tip them. It is that easy. And don’t forget, a nice lunch and drinks can be a really good tip too.

These guys are TRUE PROFESSIONALS! We've now moved with them twice (once in 2017 and then again this week) and we really can't say enough good things about them. Simi is incredibly easy to work with for scheduling and quotes, and the crews - John, Super Mario, and everyone - are just awesome. They're quick, incredibly careful and conscientious, and super friendly. If we ever move again (and god I hope we don't have to) we're absolutely calling them.
