save time while self-packing

How to save time while self-packing

Moving is something that takes a lot of time and energy. If you want to save yourself trouble you can hire some of the residential movers Brooklyn residents recommend. If you want to do it yourself, you should prepare well, especially if you don’t have a lot of time and the moving day is close. So, check out these tips to help you save time while self-packing.

Make a plan

If your moving day is close and you need to pack on your own, the best is to start by making a plan. In that way, you will not forget about something important. Make a list of all the tasks, make a schedule and stick to it, so when the moving day comes you will be ready and packed. Then what can also help is:

  • decide at the beginning what you will not pack
  • gather all the packing supplies you will be needing
  • go room by room when packing
  • if you need to detach some wires, take photos so you can easily connect all the devices as you arrive at your new home
  • rent a storage unit and a moving truck
  • or, find a moving company

Save time while self-packing

Before you start packing, make sure you decide what you will not pack. Get rid of all the items you don’t need and don’t use. You can sell them, give them to friends or family, or donate to some charity organization. When you have decided what to pack, you can start by gathering the packing supplies, like some cardboard boxes, plastic bins, moving blankets, packing tape, a dolly, etc. You can also use some already used boxes if they are in good condition, or garbage bags to pack clothes. Just don’t forget to put labels on all of that.

If you don’t have a large closet or basement where you can place all of your clothes, sports equipment, etc, you can find storage units Brooklyn locals have been using for years. Be careful when choosing a storage unit. Check everything, security system, cleanness, and if it is climate-controlled.

Get some help

When you start packing one room finish it and then you can start with another one. Don’t start and pack a few things and then to another room and pack there a few items, etc. That will not lead you anywhere. If you have to disassemble some massive furniture, make sure you have proper tools and you can use some manuals too. If you are not sure you can do it right then you can hire reliable movers who will disassemble all the items, pack them and relocate safely. But, make sure you book them in advance. Movers can be very busy and if you wait for the last moment to contact them maybe most of them will be booked already.

One of the advantages, if you decide to hire a moving company, is that you will not have to search for a moving truck. You will not have to measure all your belongings to choose the right one. Your movers will do that for you. They will also offer you insurance. So you won’t have to worry about your items. If anything happens, your insurance will cover it. So, you can use these tips to save time while self-packing, or you can hire a moving company. Choose the option that will make you have a stress-free relocation.
