A relocation can be done in one of two ways – you can either hire reputable movers, or you can opt for a DIY move. If you choose to save money and move by yourself, you will need all the help you can get. Luckily, U. Santini Moving & Storage is always here to help you. Today, we will give away the secret of our capable movers to help you move with success. Namely, moving straps are the favorite tool of our movers, with which they move heavyweight items with ease. Are you eager to learn more about it? In that case, just read on, as all of the pieces of advice you will ever need are coming your way!

What are moving straps?

Also called furniture lifting straps, this handy little invention has the potential to save every relocation. It takes a load off of your body, as lifting furniture with straps will not be as physically demanding as lifting it without it. Moreover, furniture straps use physics to shift the center of gravity of the item that you are using, so that you can lift it without a lot of hassle. There are two commonly-used types of furniture straps – shoulder and forearm. Whichever you opt for, you will not make a mistake.

Using furniture straps guidelines

If you are moving to Brooklyn, remaining safe and healthy is one of your priorities. And, even though these straps are so useful, they can still be dangerous if not used correctly. In order to minimize any potential harm that could come your way, we have composed a list of guidelines for using moving straps.

Read the instructions

No matter which type of furniture lifting straps you opt for, they will come with instructions. The best way to prepare for using them is by reading the instructions. Not only will you get more familiar with the process, but also learn how to avoid moving-related injuries from lifting heavy furniture.

Clear the pathway

Those few meters from your doorway to your moving truck can seem like miles if you are carrying a heavy dresser. The last thing you need in this situation is to wait for someone to come and remove those toys your kids left that are now blocking your pathway. Thus, to avoid this, before lifting anything, you need to make sure your path to the moving truck is clear.

Wear comfortable shoes

As you can imagine, heals should not even be on your mind if you are having a DIY move. Instead, you need to wear comfortable shoes, that will provide enough grip so that you don`t slip. There will hardly be anything worse than falling down with a heavy item in your hands.

Measure everything

If you are going to lift a heavy and wide object, you need to make sure that it fits through the doors. Moreover, if there are stairs or an elevator involved, the situation quickly turns from bad to worse. Thus, to ensure you have no surprises on your moving date, get a measuring tape. Measure the width of your doors and the objects that need to fit through them. Clearly, make sure everything is in order before you proceed with moving.

Position the straps

Now that everything else is ready, it is time to put your furniture straps to use.

  • The first thing you need to do is put the straps either across your chest and shoulders or on your forearms. It goes without saying that it takes two people to use the straps, so make sure your partner does the same thing. Behave like a real furniture mover, and act in tandem with your partner.
  • Next, put the straps on the floor and right in front of the furniture piece you want to move. Now, gently tilt the tip of your item backward, so as to prepare it for the next step.
  • Put the moving straps underneath the object, but near the outside edge of your furniture piece.
  • Once you feel ready enough to move, start making small and careful steps with your partner. One of you should move backward, and the other one forward.
  • Once you carry the item to where you want to place it, gently bend your knees and lower the item to the floor. Just make sure that your back is straight so that you don`t get hurt.

Teamwork

Everything is easier once you have someone you can trust by your side. Since you will need help from another individual when lifting your heavy items, it is best to choose someone you can trust. Just like you would choose trustworthy moving and storage companies NYC based to relocate you, you also need to pick only the people you have faith in when having a DIY move. Moreover, communication is the key to the two of your being successful. Don`t let your partner out of the decision making process. Communicate with him/her whether he or she is ready to start lifting and carrying an object. The success of your partner is directly your success and vice versa.

Where can you find moving straps?

Finding moving straps should not be difficult. You can find them in any store that specializes in selling moving supplies. Of course, since we do live in the 21st Century, you can also order them online. Since there can hardly be anything wrong with furniture lifting straps, you can get them any way you find simpler. Finally, the money you spend on these straps will be well-invested. After all, can you really put a price on your safety and well-being? We think not! Besides, there is no need to worry. Furniture lifting straps should not add a lot to your Brooklyn moving costs. Compared to other relocation expenses, moving straps are more than affordable.

These guys are TRUE PROFESSIONALS! We've now moved with them twice (once in 2017 and then again this week) and we really can't say enough good things about them. Simi is incredibly easy to work with for scheduling and quotes, and the crews - John, Super Mario, and everyone - are just awesome. They're quick, incredibly careful and conscientious, and super friendly. If we ever move again (and god I hope we don't have to) we're absolutely calling them.
