If you simply put some of your belongings in storage when you were moving and you are not sure what is there – this is a great opportunity to sort that out. You can refresh your memory with a list of things that can be in a storage unit and start from there. It is very easy to create an inventory list. You can use a spreadsheet and write down every item you have in the storage unit. Also, if you want – you can even take pictures of the items. That way – you will know in every moment what is stored.

Items that you use often should be in the front

So, once you have relocated successfully with Gowanus movers and settled in your new home – you can easily make a list of items that you use often, and they are in the storage unit. If you noticed that some of the items you go and grab more often – place them in the front of your storage unit. That way – you will be able to access them fast and you won’t have to move things around every time you need something.

Labeling is important when reorganizing your Gowanus storage

if you did not do it already – label everything! We can not tell you how important is to label every box. And you should label it in detail. If you are using plastic bins – you can put a paper on them with a list as a label. If you have some time on your hand you can even use a label maker. It is fun, and it can really make a difference in your Gowanus storage unit.

Disassemble furniture

If you have or you are adding some furniture to the storage unit – you really should consider disassembling the furniture. You will save space, and you will save your furniture from any damage. It can take a little bit of time, but it will help in the long run.

Always go vertical

If you have a lot of items, you really always place them vertically. Although, make sure that the belongings are not too close to the wall since it can cause mold. You can add some shelves or even bookcases that you don’t need at home. Stacking boxes is a great way to save space and to be sure that your belongings are safe. Of course – the heaviest items go to the bottom. Just keep in mind to have a foldable chair or a step stool so you can easily reach anything!
