Life in Brooklyn is definitely specific. There are many neighborhoods to choose from and you can rest assured that there is something for everyone. For those of us with deeper pockets, there are the most expensive Brooklyn neighborhoods. Others settle in the cheaper ones. It is all a matter of affordability.

For if you can afford it, why not live in the most expensive area, right? There has to be a reason why that area is more expensive than others. And there is. When pondering Brooklyn moving, if you want the best, then it is one of these areas. From lower crime rates to higher salaries, each area has a reason for its price. We will show you five of the most expensive neighborhoods Brooklyn has to offer.

The most expensive Brooklyn neighborhoods – The top 5

In our top 5 there are names that you will most likely recognize and they are:

  • Downtown Brooklyn
  • Fort Greene
  • Cobble Hill
  • DUMBO
  • Brooklyn Heights

These areas sport the highest cost of living among all of the Brooklyn neighborhoods. They all have their ins and outs, but there is no denying that this is the creme de la creme.

Downtown Brooklyn

This is the neighborhood to be in if recent events are showing us anything. Downtown Brooklyn is slowly becoming the place to be in. New luxurious development plans have been announced this year and it is shaping up to be the center of all Brooklyn activity.

Let us give you some hard numbers, just for example. Average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment is around $3400. Combined with the other living costs, you would require a $135,000 yearly income to live here comfortably. That is without any costs for storage Brooklyn, etc.

Prices for renting two and three-bedroom apartments are around $4500 and #6000, respectively. To live in comfort, annual income requirements are around $180,000 and $240,000.

Fort Greene

Another neighborhood that you might not know about, Fort Greene is on the rise! Similar to downtown Brooklyn, recent development plans skyrocketed this area in terms of living expenses. You will notice that the rent and average income required is quite similar to the downtown.

Average monthly rent required for one, two and three bedroom apartments: $3200 (one), $4000 (two), $4800 (three) with the annual income requirements sitting at $129,000, $162,000 and $195,000, respectively.

The most expensive Brooklyn neighborhoods – Cobble Hill

An area that is more expensive than both Fort Greene and downtown Brooklyn, Cobble Hill has a lot going for it. It is quite picturesque and all you need is one visit to fall in love with this place. It’s really that great. It is also quite expensive. But, then again, you can not get something like this at a low price. That would be unreal. There are some fun bits about Cobble Hill, like the fact that it was a record-setter in 2015. The record in question was for the highest residential sale.

This place has a landmark status! All of the residents are involving themselves in community activities. People are organizing events throughout the year. Now, you might be in luck if you only need a one bedroom apartment, as their prices are actually lower than in other Brooklyn neighborhoods. So, do your research on how to pick the best Brooklyn area and see if you are fine with a one bedroom apartment!

DUMBO

And here we come to the most expensive of them all. A place that is already one of the major tourist attractions has a lot to offer, indeed. However, prices are steep and the area is severely lacking in quality supermarkets and fine dining places.

At least it did.

Starting from this year, we predict even further rise to DUMBO‘s popularity. This area is definitely hot, as well as thriving. More and more people choose this neighborhood among all others. That tells us something. DUMBO is on the rise.

Prices are not that high right now, considering that this is the place to be in Brooklyn. However, they are almost sure to go up and if you want to get in here, try to make it fast. The more you prolong the decision, the greater the risk of it costing you way more than now.

Brooklyn Heights

Ah, the heights. We saved this place for last, not because it is number one on the most expensive Brooklyn neighborhoods list, but because it used to be for the longest time. If you know of someone who has money and lives in Brooklyn, chances are that they live in the heights.

Up until recently, that is. Nowadays DUMBO took over when expenses are concerned, but heights still hold their glamour. It is interesting that one bedroom apartments are quite cheap, even in the famous heights. It is two and three bedroom ones that will take quite a bit of money to purchase. On the other hand, the average yearly income required for the three bedroom apartment goes well over $350,000.

Moving to Brooklyn

After choosing a neighborhood, it is a good idea to consider how you are going to get there, as well. Will you conduct the move by yourself, or will you hire a professional moving company, like U.Santini Moving & Storage, to assist you in your move?

If you are moving to any of these areas, it is almost safe to assume that you will be going with professional movers, as your time and nerves are quite valuable. In this case, what you need to do is figure out which company you want to hire. The best thing to do is to check out reviews of the companies that are operating in the area, as well.

And those were the most expensive Brooklyn neighborhoods! You are sure to find what you like in some of these 5 great areas. However, we urge you to delve a bit further into them before committing.

These guys are TRUE PROFESSIONALS! We've now moved with them twice (once in 2017 and then again this week) and we really can't say enough good things about them. Simi is incredibly easy to work with for scheduling and quotes, and the crews - John, Super Mario, and everyone - are just awesome. They're quick, incredibly careful and conscientious, and super friendly. If we ever move again (and god I hope we don't have to) we're absolutely calling them.
